After freelancing in a development aid program for Burmese refugees in Thailand and working as a volunteer in the Orphanage of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, Wendla Nölle studied media engineering in Hamburg at the University of Applied Science with a focus on audio-visual production. During this time she began making films, undertaking a dual course of study with classes at the University for Visual Arts, also in Hamburg. Working with mentors Wim Wenders, Fatih Akin and Gerd Roscher, Wendla (a musician herself) produced her debut film The Chosen Ones, a documentary about the new Jewish Music revival in New York.
