6 19 2018: SFJFF38 Academy Sidebar: Hands On/Hands Off Release

As part of a special initiative supported by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the wake of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, and Jewish Film Institute (JFI) and the 38th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (SFJFF38) will shine a spotlight on women behind and in front of the lens shaping today’s social discourse and revolutionizing the way women are presented in film. This special Academy Sidebar will take place during the Festival which returns to the Bay Area July 19th and runs till August 5th.


6 19 2018: SFJFF38 Austrian Sidebar: Bless My Homeland Forever Release

The 38th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, presented annually by the Jewish Film Institute, will be presenting a special sidebar on Austria, screening three films that challenge the false narrative that casts Austria as the original “victim” of Hitler’s imperialist expansion, despite the country’s documented complicity with the Nazi war machine. These films will screen during the Festival, which returns to the Bay Area July 19th to August 5th.

The Jewish Film Institute (JFI) is pleased to announce the dates for the 38th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (SFJFF) which will return to the Bay Area July 19th to August 5th, 2018. The full program will be announced on June 19, 2018 and tickets to all programs will also go on sale at that time. Early Bird Festival Passes will become available on May 17, 2018.

Scott Balcerek’s SATAN & ADAM as the festival Local Spotlight. The festival returns to the Bay Area July 19th to August 5th.

The Jewish Film Institute’s Next Wave initiative, part of the 38th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, announced today the complete lineup for the Festival’s 2018 Next Wave Programming. Highlighting the programming as the Next Wave Spotlight presentation will be the West Coast Premiere of Marco Proserpio’s THE MAN WHO STOLE BANKSY. SFJFF38 returns to the Bay Area July 19th to August 5th in Bay Area Theatres.

Tickets are now on sale for all programs following the Early Bird Festival Passes which went on sale May 17, 2018, and early leaks of select programs.


6 19 2018: SFJFF38 Take Action Day Release

The Jewish Film Institute (JFI) is pleased to present the fifth annual Take Action Day as part of the 38th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival. The program, a full day of illuminating documentaries that take their cue from the Jewish value of tikkun olam, will take place all day on Friday, July 27th at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. Each film will be followed by discussions with filmmakers and representatives from community organizations who are making a difference with their work. Award winning filmmaker and former JFI Filmmaker in Residence Nicole Opper will led these stimulating panel discussions.
