The Special Operations Executive (SOE) was a secret British World War II organisation. It's purpose was to conduct espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance in occupied Europe (and later, also in occupied Southeast Asia) against the Axis powers, and to aid local resistance movements. Virginia, Vera and Noor worked for F Section (France). At the end of the film, the OSS comes in; it is the precursor to the CIA. Virginia Hall was the first woman to work for the CIA after the war.
The film is based on research from numerous sources including Virginia Hall's OSS File and all three women's SOE Files. Sarah also spoke with Virginia Hall's living relatives, a friend of Vera Atkins and others with close knowledge of the women.
