San Francisco artist Dori Midnight (aka Brooklyn Bloomberg) and friends do some steamy kibbutzing in this fascinating piece of Yiddishkeit, circa 1923. Rare 16mm archival porn footage is overlaid with a hilarious voiceover, sprinkled with colloquial Yiddishisms.
From 2008 Festival: Guest, United States Julie Dorf has been an activist in the LGBT rights movement for twenty years. Julie founded and directed the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) from 1990 to 2000, creating an organization that protects and advances the human rights of all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV status. Under her leadership, IGLHRC became a strong and effective human rights organization, which is known throughout the world. She currently works in philanthropy, as the Director of Philanthropic Services for the Horizons Foundation, a foundation that serves the Bay Area's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Julie is involved with numerous organizations including Human Rights Watch, Gender PAC, Global Fund for Women, PowerPAC, J-Street, and the Council for Global Equality. In 2006 for World Pride in Jerusalem, Julie helped raise funds and organize the human rights day programming. She lives in San Francisco with her partner Jenni Olson, and their two girls Hazel and Sylvie., Monica Nolan - Filmography As Writer/Director/Producer/Editor: Lesbians Who Date Men (1994, video, 18 minutes) A humorous yet thoughtful take on the complexities of lesbian sexual identity. This video debuted at the 1994 San Francisco International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and went on to play gay and lesbian festivals in Boston, Chicago, London, Berlin, Hong Kong, and many others. World of Women (1996, 16mm, 7 minutes) A black and white spoof of lesbian pulp fiction, film noir, and movie trailers. This film has played at festivals around the world. It won awards for best narrative short at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and at Turin’s Imaginaria Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Chuckie, or Ben-Hur in Five Minutes, (1997, video, 6 minutes) An experimental film which explores the twin fascinations of Charlton Heston and narrative. With Laura (below) it was part of an installation at San Francisco State University. It has also played at Artists Television Access. Laura (1997, video, 10 minutes) An experimental film about Laura Ingalls Wilder and an ill-fated cross-country car trip. Ashley, 22 (2000, 16mm, 12 minutes) A narrative comedy about the trials and tribulations of romantic pursuit. The film has played at festivals around the world. It was a runner-up for best comedy short, Ifilm Student Awards. As Editor: Grrlyshow (2000, 18 minutes) A documentary on women making zines, or do-it-yourself magazines, which playfully mixes contemporary interviews and images of zines with footage from educational films of the 60’s and 70’s. By Hook or By Crook (2001) A feature-length lesbian buddy film about an unlikely pair of small time crooks.,
