Mina Tannenbaum

Mina Tannenbaum and Ethel Benegui meet as youngsters in a ballet class in Paris. Thus begins a bittersweet 25-year friendship. Meeting regularly on a special bench in Montmartre, they laugh and gossip together, survive first crushes, shared romances and tussles with their Jewish mothers. They forge a deep friendship which changes as they mature into very different women. Mina grows into a wildly successful, courageous, if not stubborn, artist. Ethel, visibly envious of Mina's success, tries on a variety of identities in her pursuit of men and happiness. What is very clear is the powerful pull their actions have on each other and the inevitable intertwining of their destinies. Recreating the styles and the decor of Paris from the 1970s to the present, writer-director Martine Dugowson has endowed this sexy, imaginative coming of age story with visual flair.
