Full Description
An unusual historical drama recounting another little-known story of successful resistance - how the Bulgarians organized to prevent the deportations of thousands of Jews to death camps during World War II. Partly based on true stories, partly fictionalized, the story takes place in Sofia, 1943, and follows the family of Jewish lawyer Joseph Levi and his son Jacques, a member of the underground resistance. An amazing array of Bulgarians - from Communists to clergymen, from politicians to proletarians - join in an effort that culminates in a massive community protest and the disgraced retreat of the Nazi ambassador. A sweeping and colorful story with a cast of thousands and an inappropriate name. TRANSPORTS OF DEATH is a film about life.
