Jews in Shorts: Experiencing the World

In these four fiction films, the experiences of young protagonists are shaped by their individual perspectives. As immigrants, ultra-religious youth or rebellious teens, they invite us to view the world through their unique lenses.

The Artichoke Season

After her father leaves home, 10-year-old Rosalie, who lives in a Jerusalem slum, turns to fantasy-like memories from her childhood.

Solomon and Solomon Go Fishing

In an attempt to connect with his son, middle-aged Ethiopian Solomon takes him on a fishing trip to the Dead Sea. As the two set off on their journey, the cultural and personal gaps in their lives reveal the absurdity of existence in the Holy Land.

Arava

Two runaway teenage girls hitchhike through small-town Israel to a Northern Jewish sanctum in pursuit of spiritual redemption. Along the way, they’re confronted with the complexities of their relationship.

Women of Virtue

Etel, a 9-year-old girl who lives in the Hasidic community in Paris, gets her period for the first time. Her mother finally looks at her as if she were a woman. Etel feels blessed, until she learns that women are considered impure.
