Full Description
LOUISE THE REBEL is a moving portrait of a stifled childhood with Tunisian Jewish immigrants in Paris in the early 1960s. Louise, a pugnacious and strong-willed ten year-old, lives under the iron hand of her mother's strict adherence to Sephardic tradition. But thanks to school and TV, she discovers the world that waits for her beyond the family's apartment. This is also a story about the imprisonment of women - Louise by her mother, and her mother by her education, her prejudices, and her husband. 1985 San Francisco International Film Festival; 1985 George Sadoul Prize, Best First Feature by a New Director, Paris.
