Vienna Is Different

If Vienna simply means Mozart, THE THIRD MAN, and strudel, then you must see VIENNA IS DIFFERENT. Filmmakers Korda and Leitner arrive in Vienna with their cameras rolling in March 1988, during the Waldheim affair and the fiftieth anniversary of the Anschluss, Hitler's annexation of Austria. Their cinema verité approach captures neo-Nazis, Jews, people on the street and Kurt Waldheim himself. The Austrians confront, deflect, twist, and avoid issues of anti-Semitism and responsibility to history while proving that nothing is innocent in Vienna. 1989 Berlin Film Festival.
